Exodus 34:29-35

The Shining Face of Moses

²⁹When Moses came down from Mount Sinai, with ^(A)the two tablets of the testimony in his hand as he came down from the mountain, Moses did not know that the skin of his face ^(B)shone because he had been talking with God.^[a] ³⁰Aaron and all the people of Israel saw Moses, and behold, the skin of his face ^(C)shone, and they were afraid to come near him. ³¹But Moses called to them, and Aaron and all the leaders of the congregation returned to him, and Moses talked with them. ³²Afterward all the people of Israel came near, and he ^(D)commanded them all that the Lord had spoken with him in Mount Sinai. ³³And when Moses had finished speaking with them, he put a ^(E)veil over his face.

³⁴Whenever Moses ^(F)went in before the Lord to speak with him, he would remove the veil, until he came out. And when he came out and told the people of Israel what he was commanded, ³⁵the people of Israel would see the face of Moses, that the skin of Moses' face was ^(G)shining. And Moses would put the veil over his face again, until he went in to speak with him.

³Let them praise your ^(G)great and awesome name!
    ^(H)Holy is he!
⁴^(I)The King in his might ^(J)loves justice.^[a]
    You have established equity;
you have executed justice
    and righteousness in Jacob.
⁵^(K)Exalt the Lord our God;
    ^(L)worship at his ^(M)footstool!
    ^(N)Holy is he!

⁶^(O)Moses and Aaron were among his ^(P)priests,
    Samuel also was among those who ^(Q)called upon his name.
    They ^(R)called to the Lord, and he answered them.
⁷In ^(S)the pillar of the cloud he spoke to them;
    they ^(T)kept his testimonies
    and the statute that he gave them.

⁸O Lord our God, you answered them;
    you were ^(U)a forgiving God to them,
    but ^(V)an avenger of their wrongdoings.
⁹Exalt the Lord our God,
    and worship at his ^(W)holy mountain;
    for the Lord our God is holy!

²⁷Now ^(A)you are the body of Christ and individually ^(B)members of it. ²⁸And ^(C)God has appointed in the church first ^(D)apostles, second ^(E)prophets, third teachers, then ^(F)miracles, then ^(G)gifts of healing, ^(H)helping, ^(I)administrating, and ^(J)various kinds of tongues. ²⁹Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? ³⁰Do all possess gifts of healing? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret? ³¹But ^(K)earnestly desire the higher gifts.

And I will show you a still more excellent way.

The Way of Love

13 If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. ²And if I have ^(L)prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, ^(M)so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. ³^(N)If I give away all I have, and ^(O)if I deliver up my body to be burned,^[a] but have not love, I gain nothing.

⁴^(P)Love is patient and ^(Q)kind; love ^(R)does not envy or boast; it ^(S)is not arrogant ⁵or rude. It ^(T)does not insist on its own way; it ^(U)is not irritable or resentful;^[b] ⁶it ^(V)does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but ^(W)rejoices with the truth. ⁷^(X)Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, ^(Y)endures all things.

⁸Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away. ⁹For ^(Z)we know in part and we prophesy in part, ¹⁰but ^(AA)when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away. ¹¹When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways. ¹²For ^(AB)now we see in a mirror dimly, but ^(AC)then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as ^(AD)I have been fully known.

¹³So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.

²⁸^(A)Now about eight days after these sayings he took with him ^(B)Peter and John and James and ^(C)went up on the mountain to pray. ²⁹And as he was praying, the appearance of his face was ^(D)altered, and ^(E)his clothing became dazzling white. ³⁰And behold, two men were talking with him, Moses and Elijah, ³¹who appeared in glory and spoke of his departure,^[a] which he was about to accomplish at Jerusalem. ³²Now Peter and those who were with him ^(F)were heavy with sleep, but when they became fully awake ^(G)they saw his glory and the two men who stood with him. ³³And as the men were parting from him, Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is good that we are here. Let us make three ^(H)tents, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah”—^(I)not knowing what he said. ³⁴As he was saying these things, ^(J)a cloud came and overshadowed them, and they were afraid as they entered the cloud. ³⁵And ^(K)a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is my Son, ^(L)my Chosen One;^[b] ^(M)listen to him!” ³⁶And when the voice had spoken, Jesus was found alone. ^(N)And they kept silent and told no one in those days anything of what they had seen.
